Turner Hire Drive were delighted to provide a number of vans for the 184th Durham Regatta this past weekend in order to assist what was a highly successful event. Thousands of spectators were treated to the sight of some 600 crews competing in a packed programme of over 450 quality races. Despite the adverse conditions, each race was conducted on schedule which is a testament to the great planning and organisation that went in to the Durham Regatta 2017.
Racing took place between Pelaw Wood and Prebends Bridge, over both a 750-metre short course and the traditional longer course, covering a mile-and-a-quarter. The action wasn’t all on the river though. There was a classic car rally, free entertainment from comedy acts Musical Ruth and the Bread and Butter Theatre Company, and music from local schoolchildren of the Durham Music Service and a variety of brass bands.
You can see a video of some of the events that took place over the weekend on the BBC website here.
Once again the Regatta provided great support to local traders who were able to take advantage of the diverse audience profile to cater for markets not found elsewhere in the North East. Several of the trade stalls sold out of products and others reported making positive marketing leads for future sales. Therefore, highlighting the impact that local events can have on the business community.
