FairFuelUK seeks signatures
FairFuelUK, the campaign to reduce fuel prices, is seeking
signatures for an online petition to force a debate on the issue in
Parliament. It needs 100,000 signatures and has over 81,000 so
far.
Its petition calls on the government to:
- Scrap the planned 4p fuel duty increases scheduled for January
and August 2012.
- Create a price stabilisation mechanism that smooths out
fluctuations in the pump price.
- Pressure big oil companies to pass on cheaper oil to
motorists.
- Set up a commission to look at market competitiveness and
radical ways of cutting fuel taxes in the longer term.
FairFuelUK is particularly keen to reach the 100,000 mark before
party conference season begins, later this month. It points out
that this ePetition is different from the one on its own website
that some readers may already have signed.
FairFuelUK is backed by the BVRLA, the RAC, the Freight Transport
Association and the Road Haulage Association.
The petition can be signed here.
