New Driving Laws

New Driving Laws

We want to ensure that all of our customers are aware of the newNew Driving Laws driving laws that come into place as of today. Drivers caught using their phone at the wheel within two years of passing their test will have their licence revoked under new rules in England, Scotland and Wales.

As well as this, the penalties received for using a mobile phone at the wheel will double from the 1st of March to six points and a £200 fine.

New drivers who get six points or more must retake both their practical and theory tests. While more experienced drivers can be banned if they pick up 12 points over three years.

These new, stricter laws are a result of an increasing number of related incidents in recent years. In 2015, there were 22 people killed and 99 others seriously injured in accidents caused by a driver using their phone.

The police have now begun enforcing these rules as much as possible over the first week, with extra patrols working to stop people using their phones while driving.

Around 3,600 drivers received penalties in the last enforcement week in January, so unless you’re using hands free Bluetooth, it’s best to keep your phone out of sight and out of mind.
